Safeguarding, Integrity and Anti-doping

Our Commitment

Siggiewi Rowing Club is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and fair sporting environment for all members. Our approach aligns with international standards set by World Rowing and national safeguarding and integrity principles promoted by the Authority for Maltese Sport (AIMS).

We place athlete welfare, ethical conduct, and clean sport at the heart of everything we do but safeguarding, integrity, and clean sport require the commitment of every member.

By working together and aligning with World Rowing and AIMS, our Club ensures that we uphold the highest standards of safety, fairness, and respect in sport.

Reporting Concerns

Any safeguarding or Integrity concern must be reported immediately to the Club Integrity and Safeguarding Officer (Dr Marilyn Casha) or any other committee member. Reports will be handled promptly and confidentially in line with guidance from AIMS and relevant Maltese legislation. You may also report this directly to AIMS via their website (www.aims.org.mt). Any breach will be addressed through appropriate disciplinary procedures and, where relevant, reported to AIMS.

Safeguarding

In line with World Rowing and AIMS frameworks, all participants have the right to enjoy sport in a safe and supportive environment, free from abuse, harassment, or discrimination.

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility, and the welfare of children and vulnerable individuals is always the club’s top priority. Siggiewi Rowing Club commits to:

  • Providing a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all athletes
  • Promoting respect, dignity, and equality at all times
  • Preventing and addressing all forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, and neglect
  • Ensuring coaches, volunteers, and officials are aware of safeguarding obligations in line with AIMS guidance
  • Encouraging a culture where concerns can be raised without fear

Commitment to Clean Sport: Integrity and Anti-Doping

Siggiewi Rowing Club promotes the core values of sport as recognised by both World Rowing and AIMS:

  • Honesty and fairness
  • Respect for rules and others
  • Accountability and responsibility
  • Transparency and good governance

Integrity is essential to protecting the reputation of rowing and ensuring trust in competition. All members are expected to:

  • Act with honesty and respect at all times
  • Compete fairly and uphold the spirit of sport
  • Avoid unethical behaviour, including manipulation of competitions
  • Follow club rules and applicable national and international regulations

Moreover, the Club fully supports the global fight against doping, in line with World Rowing and the standards enforced nationally by AIMS. Doping undermines fairness, damages athlete health, and is strictly prohibited. All athletes and support personnel must:

  • Comply with the World Anti-Doping Code
  • Understand and respect the principle of strict liability
  • Check all medications and supplements before use
  • Apply for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) where required
  • Cooperate fully with testing procedures conducted under AIMS authority

The club supports ongoing education initiatives to ensure members are informed about anti-doping rules, risks, and responsibilities, in line with both World Rowing and AIMS programmes. Suspected doping violations or integrity concerns are to be reported immediately and confidentially through appropriate channels.
