Siġġiewi Rowing Club is committed to promoting the highest standards of integrity, honesty, fairness and respect in all its sporting and administrative activities. The Club believes that rowing should be conducted in an environment that is transparent, ethical and free from corruption, manipulation and abuse.
The Club fully supports the work of the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AIMS) and will cooperate with AIMS, Malta Rowing Federation, Regatta Malta, World Rowing and any other competent national or international authority in safeguarding the integrity of sport. It is a condition of membership that all athletes and members are aware and follow applicable national legislation, regulations and guidelines as published on the AiMS website https://aims.org.mt/.
Our Commitment
The Club is committed to:
- promoting a culture of honesty, fairness and ethical conduct;
- ensuring that competitions are conducted fairly and without improper influence;
- fostering respect for opponents, officials, volunteers and spectators;
- preventing corruption and conflicts of interest;
- encouraging transparency and accountability in decision-making;
- protecting the reputation and integrity of rowing and of the Club; and
- educating athletes, coaches, officials and members on integrity in sport.
Responsibilities of Members
All athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and members are expected to uphold the principles of integrity and fair play at all times.
Every affiliated person shall:
- compete honestly and within the rules of the sport;
- treat all persons with dignity and respect;
- act in the best interests of the sport and the Club;
- avoid any actual or perceived conflict of interest;
- refrain from any conduct that may damage the reputation of the Club or the sport of rowing;
- cooperate fully with investigations carried out by competent authorities.
Match-Fixing and Competition Manipulation
Siġġiewi Rowing Club adopts a zero-tolerance approach towards competition manipulation.
Match-fixing, race manipulation, bribery, corruption, illegal betting, misuse of inside information, or any attempt to improperly influence the outcome of a competition, selection process or sporting activity are strictly prohibited.
Members must not:
- offer, solicit or accept any bribe or improper benefit;
- deliberately underperform or manipulate the outcome of any competition;
- provide inside information for betting purposes;
- participate in or facilitate illegal betting activities connected with rowing; or
- attempt to influence officials, judges or competitors through dishonest or improper means.
Reporting Concerns
Anyone who becomes aware of suspected corruption, match-fixing, bribery, illegal betting, conflicts of interest or other integrity concerns is encouraged to report the matter promptly.
Reports should be made to the appropriate competent authority and may also be submitted to the Club’s Integrity Officer. Where required by law, reports should also be made to the Police.
The Club is committed to protecting whistleblowers acting in good faith from retaliation and will treat reports confidentially to the fullest extent possible.
Education and Awareness
The Club actively promotes integrity education and encourages all members to familiarise themselves with the guidance, policies and educational resources published by the Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AIMS), World Rowing and other competent sporting authorities.
Integrity Officer
The Club has appointed an Integrity Officer who serves as the primary point of contact for matters relating to integrity, ethical conduct, anti-corruption, competition manipulation and related concerns.
Disciplinary Action
Compliance with the Club’s Integrity Policy is a binding condition of Club membership and athlete registration.
Any alleged breach may be investigated by the Club and/or referred to the competent national or international authority. The Club reserves the right to take disciplinary action in accordance with its Statute and disciplinary procedures and, where appropriate, to seek compensation for any financial, reputational or other damage resulting from integrity violations, without prejudice to any action taken by AiMS, Malta Rowing Federation, Regatta Malta, World Rowing or any other competent authority.
