ATHLETE & ORDINARY MEMBERSHIP

Siġġiewi Rowing Club offers two types of memberships for individuals who train with the Club:

Registration in these categories is open to anyone who wishes to become part of the Siġġiewi Rowing Club “family”, a community of rowers, athletes, and like-minded individuals who share a passion for rowing, sport, fitness, wellbeing, personal development and physical training.

Siġġiewi Rowing Club is the only Maltese rowing club which is affiliated to both Malta Rowing Federation and Regatta Malta. Thus, as from July 2025, athletes may choose to register through either organisation or through both, depending on the disciplines in which they wish to participate. Unless you intend to participate exclusively in traditional rowing, registration through the Malta Rowing Federation is required. Alternatively, individuals who do not wish to take part in regattas or other rowing competitions may join the Club as Club Athletes or Ordinary Members.

Our training programmes are available for modest membership and training contributions, which help cover the costs of group coaching, equipment purchase, maintenance, and the continued development of the Club. Please note that these contributions do not include any fees, charges, or donations that may be payable for the use of third-party facilities or 1-1 personal coaching.

REGISTER AS a siggiewi ROWER / PARA ROWER (ATHLETE)

At Siġġiewi Rowing Club, we recognise that every rower is unique. Whether you are completely new to the sport, looking to improve your fitness, or training to compete at the highest level, we will help you develop a training programme tailored to your goals, aspirations, experience, and athletic ability.

Everyone is welcome to join and experience the sport of rowing in a supportive, inclusive, and enjoyable environment.

As a registered Siġġiewi Rowing Club rower, you will be able to participate in our training programmes and club activities and, if you wish, represent the Club in local and international competitions. We offer a variety of rowing disciplines, including indoor rowing, coastal rowing, and Olympic and Paralympic rowing. As a registered member, you will also be entitled to give direction to the Club by attending and voting at the Club’s Annual General Meeting.

The registration forms and supporting documentation required to register as a Rower / Para Rower (Athlete) with the Malta Rowing Federation are available on the Federation’s website https://maltarowing.com/docs/.

The registration form to register as a “Regatta Rower” through Regatta Malta is available here.

OUR “ROWER” PACKAGES

We welcome both experienced rowers and complete beginners. Our membership, training, and coaching packages have been designed to suit a range of needs—from newcomers requiring close supervision, to recreational athletes, and high-performance rowers training for national and international competition.

Our most popular introductory option is the Basic Membership, which includes unlimited indoor training together with 10 coached on-water rowing sessions per year. We also offer an Indoor Membership for athletes who wish to train exclusively on land, as well as a Full Membership, which provides unlimited access to indoor training and independent on-water rowing sessions, subject to reasonable use.

The Full Membership is ideal for athletes who wish to train frequently, both indoors and on the water, including daily sessions. All membership packages can be upgraded at any time.

All training programmes include access to our coached indoor rowing sessions and land-based strength and conditioning programmes. Under the guidance of our qualified coaches, you will develop your fitness, rowing technique, and overall performance, whether your objective is improved wellbeing or competitive rowing.

At present, the Club offers one coached group on-water training session each week.

New to Rowing?

For athletes with no previous rowing experience, on-water training is normally preceded by an introductory indoor rowing programme. This allows new members to develop the fundamental technique, fitness, and safety awareness required before progressing onto the water.

If you would like to learn more, we invite you to book a free indoor rowing session, during which we can introduce you to the sport and explain the pathway towards on-water rowing.

Club ATHLETE & ORDINARY MEMBERSHIP

You do not need to be a rower to train with Siggiewi RC!

In addition to our standard Rower membership packages, we also welcome individuals who train with the Club without being formally registered as a Rower (qaddief) or Regatta Rower (qaddief tar-regatta).

Club Athletes

Our Club Athlete membership is intended for bona fide athletes who train with Siġġiewi Rowing Club in sporting disciplines that do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Malta Rowing Federation or Regatta Malta, such as HYROX, powerlifting, and other strength and endurance sports. This category is also suitable for individuals who wish to train with the Club before deciding to take up rowing.

Ordinary Members

Individuals may also join as Ordinary Members. This category is intended for non-athlete members who use the Club’s facilities for general fitness, health, wellbeing, or social purposes, without representing the Club in competitive sporting activities.

Important Information

Please note that individuals registered as Club Athletes or Ordinary Members may not be registered as Rowers or Regatta Rowers with another club. Should they subsequently wish to compete in rowing or regatta events, they must first register with Siġġiewi Rowing Club as a Rower / Regatta Rower Athlete, in accordance with the applicable regulations of the Malta Rowing Federation and/or Regatta Malta. Standard “Indoor Membership” charges apply.

Should you require any further information please contact the Club President, Joseph Grima, on +356 7904 9865 or any other member of the committee.

Important: The registration form to register as a “Regatta Rower” through Regatta Malta is available here. Registrations as a “Rower” and/or “Regatta Rower” through Siġġiewi Rowing Club follow the protocol, rules and regulations of Malta Rowing Federation and/or Regatta Malta (as applicable).
