Health Fest 2026: A Morning of Health, Fitness, Wellbeing and Lifesaving Skills at Ta’ Qali

Saturday, 7 November 2026 | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm | Farmers Market, Ta’ Qali

Members of the public are invited to attend Health Fest 2026, a community health awareness event taking place on Saturday, 7 November, between 9:00 am and noon at the Farmers Market in Ta’ Qali.

The event is organised as part of the “Rowing for Health and Recovery” programme, an initiative of Siġġiewi Rowing Club (VO/2036) supported by APS Bank. It will bring together several organisations and health professionals to promote healthier lifestyles through interactive activities, practical demonstrations, free health screenings, professional advice and hands-on experiences suitable for people of different ages and abilities.

Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including:

  • Rowing for Health – Discover the Benefits of Physical Activity: Siġġiewi Rowing Club will offer visitors the opportunity to try rowing and discover how rowing and regular physical activity can become an enjoyable and integral part of a healthier lifestyle. The activity will highlight the accessibility of rowing as a form of exercise that can contribute to physical fitness, strength and overall wellbeing, including for people of different ages and abilities.
  • Free Health Screenings – Know Your Numbers: The Malta Health Students’ Association (MHSA) will offer health screenings, including blood glucose testing, blood pressure checks and blood oxygen level measurements. These simple checks aim to raise awareness of important health indicators and encourage individuals to take a more active role in monitoring and maintaining their health and wellbeing.
  • Learn How to Save a Life – Basic Life Support: The Malta Resuscitation Council will demonstrate essential Basic Life Support (BLS) techniques and give members of the public the opportunity to practise these potentially lifesaving skills. Visitors will learn how to respond to a cardiac emergency and gain practical knowledge that could make the difference between life and death. Come and learn how to save a life!
  • Podiatric services: The University of Malta’s Department of Podiatry and the Association of Podiatrists Malta will provide free professional advice on foot health and care, helping visitors better understand the importance of maintaining healthy feet, preventing common foot problems and recognising when professional attention may be required.
  • Healthy and Sustainable Eating – Interactive Nutrition Activities: The University of Malta’s Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Dietetics will offer nutrition advice alongside a series of engaging interactive games exploring sustainable dietary patterns. Visitors will be invited to test their knowledge of food storage by guessing the fridge-life and shelf-life of different foods, discover practical ways of reducing food waste, and explore Mediterranean-inspired sustainable recipe ideas. These activities will demonstrate how everyday food choices can contribute to both personal health and environmental sustainability.

Health Fest aims to demonstrate that healthier living does not have to be complicated. Small, informed changes in physical activity, nutrition, preventive care and emergency preparedness can make a meaningful difference to individual and community wellbeing.

The event features the “Rowing for Health and Recovery” programme (www.siggiewi-rowing.com/row4health), an initiative by Siġġiewi Rowing Club,  supported by APS Bank, and is being organised in collaboration with the Malta Health Students’ Association, Malta Resuscitation Council, the Association of Podiatrists Malta, the Farmers Market, Malta Food Agency and the University of Malta’s Faculty of Health Sciences.

Jeremy Vassallo, CSR Manager at APS Bank, said: “We are proud to support this initiative, which reflects APS Bank’s CSR pillars and values by promoting healthier lifestyles, practical education and stronger, more inclusive communities. Through collaborations such as this, we aim to help create meaningful opportunities that empower people to make informed choices and enhance their wellbeing.”

The public is warmly encouraged to attend, take part in the activities, speak to the participating professionals and discover practical ways of making health and wellbeing part of everyday life. Come along, try something new, learn valuable skills and take a step towards a healthier you!
